The Tulum Guide – Elsewhere

Sun, summer and cervezas!
From our guest contributor, Drea Sobieski, editor of Elsewhere.

There’s certain aura of untouched magic in the salty Tulum breeze. The beach feels somewhat nostalgic – evoking scenes from a simpler time. Although Tulum has risen in popularity in recent years, it still manages to maintain its character and unspoiled beauty. Here, time moves by the patterns of the sun. The best way to enjoy it is to just simply be. But if you get restless, like most of us, here’s a few local stops you won’t want to miss.

STAY: La Semilla, Playa Del Carmen – Bring a book and some SPF to this beautifully designed bohemian B&B – you may not want to leave. Owners and designers Alexis Schärer and Angie Rodriguez sourced the hotel’s decor from local Mexican markets and shops, and its ambiance is rich with authenticity.

SHOPCoqui Coqui Perfumeria The beauty of scent is its ability to recall memory and remind us of places and people. Don’t miss a stop at Coqui Coqui Perfumeria to take some of the magic home with you.

SNACK: Posado Margherita – On a hot day, few things taste better than ice cold gelato. If you’re too late for a lunch or dinner reservation, make this a pit stop between sunscreen applications to indulge in a sweet, mid day treat.

EXPLORE: The Mayan Ruins – No journey to Tulum would be complete without visiting the Mayan ruins.  Make this your one historical pit-stop, but get there early – crowds congregate quickly!
