Into India

Into India

A behind the scenes glance at our latest Editorial for Summer 17 with the lovely team @wolfcubwolfcub @lucywilliams02 @oliviaedit captured in Magical India

A Beautiful Chaos

We dived into the gateway of India’s most flamboyant city, Jaipur, where we were greeted with the notorious motorbike mayhem, delightfully vibrant exteriors that resembled textile wonderlands, dawdling yet incredibly decorated camels and cows, and fairy-tale like forts that you have to really see to believe.

Jaipur has always held a special place in our heart, so we decided it was time to share and experience the magic that is one of our must visit destinations – Jaipur, India.

Our Oasisasd6

Beautiful tranquility are the choice of words that spring to mind when we reminisce on our time at Savista Retreat.  A state of peace and mind is projected by Savista in everything they offer, from private yoga sessions, organically grown and harvested produce direct from farm to fork, sipping Chai from the rooftop as the sun goes down, and finally – creating such an open and unique space that provides the perfect stepping stone to switch off, take in the fresh air and truly… relax.

You’ll be captured by the charm of this ancient palace turned awe-inspiring eco-retreat hotel nestled in the old countryside. Situated in a small village on the edge of Jaipur city, Savista Retreat offers the perfect balance between city life and rural Rajasthan.

Monumental sites and bazaars are a mere 45 minute drive from your oasis where you can let yourself go in all the hustle and bustle, but return to a sense of calm at the end of your day.

You can contact Savista Retreat directly to enquiry about their luxe, uniquely-designed, airy rooms with a sun terrace or patio starting at approximately $158USD per night in the heart of a tranquil haven.

Good Breaks, Good Driver, Good luck

7am wake up call.

After months of planning, mood boards and design, Day 1 shoot day had arrived and the team was ready to capture the magic of Summer 17 Editorial x India.

Savistabeing as hospitable as they are, assisted with organising our driver/guard/translator and anything else you could think we needed, who we couldn’t have done without! His words of wisdom stuck the whole trip…

“You need 3 things in India – Good Breaks, Good Driver, Good luck!” and begun to chuckle to himself.

He was referring to the traffic mayhem that we could not stop gawking at (and each other) while he weaved and honked at forever chaotic merges of Transport Trucks, Scooters and high way animals during our journey from Savista to the first location, The Pink City Walls.

We speak for the team in saying our second location was a definite highlight (and insti worthy) bucket list hot spot that we searched for an incredible amount of time.

You know those places that get pinned on Pinterest and deep inside you realise, you’re never going to actually find it? Well we want to say a massive THANK YOU to the individual who pinned the exact location for this absolutely mesmerising space about 10 minutes away from Amer Fort.

Suprisingly, it still gets quite busy here so we recommend to ask your driver to avoid peak tour guide times (lunchtime!) so you can take in the essence and beauty like it’s your own little colorful castle.wall3

The Star Attraction

A place like no other.

Amer Fort, recognised as one of India’s most well preserved forts, is beyond the beauty you can envision. This magnificent castle comprises a palace with extensive greener fuelled grounds, pale yellow and rose coloured sandstone walls, with a hint of white marble and artisian crafted mirror detailing.

Divided into four main sections, we were blown away by how much time we spent simply gazing at the allure that was created centuries prior.

After taking this all in, we began to capture the natural charm and essence for Faithfull and the result was simply unbelievable…

Are we dreaming?

You know those moments where one picture speaks a thousand words? Well – this is one for the books. Welcome to Nahargarh Fort, where dreams and reality are met and your eyes are left wide open to all the beauty surrounding.

Standing on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, Nahargarh Fort offers dwellers a post card perfect birds eye view over The Pink City while its golden pillars stand tall and wondrous.

After picture perfect location after location, we couldn’t believe we still had saved one of the best as our final destination.. the enchanting yet mystic small town of Pushkar, India.

The Holy Lake is wrapped by the pilgrimage town encompassing 52 bathing ghats and hundreds of pearly blue temples. A joyful balance between the bustling long bazaar on the main street mixed back with the precious sounds of chanting, drums and devotional prayers creates a soothing feeling as soon as you step foot in Pushkar.

Two absolutely delightful eateries we visited (on more than 1 occasion) we have listed as a MUST when in Jaipur and Pushkar.

The Sixth Sense – Inn Seventh Heaven

How does a delicious a la carte roof top terrace restaurant sound while the sun sets magically over the peaceful Lake, ambient music fills the air and you’re left all but to eat some of the freshest food in all of Pushkar? We were extremely happy with discovering this hidden gem as a recommendation from Lucy Williams.  In town for a night or two? You would be silly not to add The Sixth Sense to your travel list.

Samode Haveli

We would describe Samode Haveli as the haven of complete peacefullness and mesmerisation in the heart of the hustle and bustle. This 300 year old haveli, now turned hotel sanctuary is over flowing with impeccable taste and flair in design. Boasting vibrant coloured exteriors, faultless gardens and fountains, and most importantly – a delicious array of indian and western cuisine to suit any travellers desires at a very reasonable rate. In Jaipur? Add Samode Haveli to the dinner must!

Pack for Hot and Cold Climates // Even if you are simply travelling to one area, packing that extra jumper or extra warm pair of pjs for the summer nights pays off as it can get unexpectedly chilly (as we discovered first hand).

Cover Up // It’s no secret that when travelling throughout India it is culturally polite to cover those shoulders and knees. This will make your life a lot easier and hault those disapproving stares or unwanted attention.

Your Camera is Essential // Jaipur and Pushkar are post card perfect – so whatever you do, do not forget to charge your camera or phone to snap the shots that will last a life time.

Our Summer 17  Editorial Shoot was truly a memorable expedition. The bright and beautiful colored palaces and haveli’s we were able to capture, the textile havens we sifted through, the charming flower garlands we were gifted and the ever continuing beautiful people we interacted with made the shoot completely and utterly more beautiful than ever envisioned.

Thank you India for the magic we experienced from dawn to dusk.
