We’ll take any chance to escape to the boutique beach town of tropical Tulum in Mexico. A recent collaboration with style and travel connoisseur, Olivia Lopez brought us back to this lush paradise, through her beautiful photos. As the blogger behind Lust for Life and editor of Bon Weekender, Olivia has a trusted eye for finding the best boutiques, hidden restaurants, and design hotels around the world.
Read our interview with her below, and see all of the photos from her Tulum Diary, here.
What was in your suitcase going to Tulum, Mexico? What are your 5 “must pack” travel essentials?
My Tulum suitcase was packed with crochet knit bikinis, woven bags and Faithfull the Brand pieces that ranged from rompers to off shoulder dresses.
My 5 travel essentials are a bottle of perfume, a polaroid camera, a swimsuit, and a good magazine (My favourite is The Gentlewoman) and a versatile day to night piece.
How would you describe Tulum, Mexico and its surroundings to someone who has never been? Tulum is part beach town, part jungle with an astonishing amount of great dining options and artisanal shops located in the Yucatan Peninsula.
If we could only visit one place in Tulum, where would you suggest? (it can be a café, beach, bar, shop etc) ?
Your earliest travel memory?
Taking road tripes down Route 66 with my family
You travel a lot. How do you feel this has influenced your career and life choices? Is it a big part of your life?
I came across school assigned journals and reflections of mine from 1st, 8th, and 10th grade, and the one reoccurring theme that prevailed was my will and desire to travel. Looking back it feels like they were my intentions all along. I’ve spent the majority of my summer breaks going on budget trips with friends or week-long vacations with my family, and it was always those moments away that I felt the most stimulated, inspired and productive and it gave me a larger outlook as a whole. I’m happy that my hobby eventually allowed me to pursue travel as a career. But in an alternate universe where I would have a 9-5, I would still spend all of my free time mapping out my next weekend trip.
